CHRISTMAS MUSIC ON THE RADIO

I love Christmas music probably more than most of you ... you should see my collection! But I love it only in a very distinct time window. [See below.]

Dallas' KVIL-FM asked for my input about Christmas Music and I gave it to them:

Playing Christmas music before Thanksgiving worked in 2001 ONLY! There was a very good reason for it THAT YEAR ONLY! Thanks to whoever thought of doing it!
But the last few years KVIL-FM has appeared to enjoy PISSING OFF listeners with early Christmas music. You've even used the same grumpy phone call several times and in years after the original year she called!
How about doing the old-timey thing and gradually increasing the Christmas Music/per hour starting the day after Thanksgiving and ending with the Grand Finale of all Christmas music Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

Based on a message at the end of the survey they have no intentions to listening to me: Don't be surprised if they start Christmas music 11/14/08. PLUS: that's the day I could win a Christmas Sock Gift for participating in the survey. WHAT!?

Texas State Fair Deep Fried Food and Pickled Quail Eggs

We've heard all about the fried foods at state fairs ... yes, I ate the chicken-fried bacon at this year's Texas State Fair [and my arteries are clogging as we read].
Back in Kansas City I had seen pickled chicken eggs in huge jars back behind the bar ... only in Olathe, KS straight bars, I might add ... but had never eaten them.
Well, Oma's Pickled Quail Eggs caught my eye and since they are lots smaller than chicken eggs I decided to try them. [I ate (raw) Quail Egg Shooters at a sushi restaurant, so why not?]
Instant review: BORING! Those poor little Texas quail are shooting out all those eggs for naught ... in my opinion.

Later,
Steve

NORTH TX WEATHER, MEDIA METEOROLIGISTS AND IKE

Even though I'm a weather geek, I certainly don't envy the local weather men/women here in North Texas.
The impending doom of IKE was certain reason for our friends south of us to evacuate and the damage it did to Houston, Galveston, Beaumont and other cities bears that out.
Now that we've seen IKE pass Dallas by, the non-stop coverage on at least one Dallas TV station [Channel 8] today now seems fruitless! [But, dang it, I would've loved to have been there is the thick of it!]
But there was also some humor to be found. While Houston/Galveston/Beaumont were being told to evacuate or die ... us North Texans were told this: Due to the potential of heavy rain and high winds, local residents should be reminded to secure lawn furniture, potted plants and garbageroll carts.
LOL! I secured my potted plants and went to a birthday party.

What!? A Gay Cardinal? I Thought They Were Just Red

Potential saint's burial site hints at gay pastUpon his death in 1890, Cardinal John Henry Newman asked to be buried next to his longtime friend and housemate, Ambrose St. John, fueling speculation that the two men may have been lovers. Today, Newman is a candidate for sainthood, and some activists are opposing the Vatican's desire to move his remains to a more public venue, according to this article. TIME (8/28)
